En aquest treball es mostren els aspectes del medi ambient sinòptic i mesoescalar associat a un fet local de pluja torrencial al sud de la península Ibèrica el 16 d'agost de 2010, amb més de 200 mm en 5 hores, que va provocar una important riuada, utilitzant dades observacionals i les anàlisis operacionals del Centre Europeu de Previsió Meteorològica d'Abast Mitjà i dades de previsions. El fet va estar associat al transport cap als pols d'una profunda humitat tropical al llarg del vessant occidental de l'anticicló d'estiu de nivell alt i mitjà sobre el nord d'Àfrica, i a una ciclogènesi de nivell mitjà originada per la interacció d'una depressió de latitud mitjana i la franja d'humitat tropical. La ciclogènesi va provocar un flux de màxims de velocitat dins el corrent en jet i l'exportació d'humitat tropical a la península Ibèrica. En l'escala sinòptica, la precipitació torrencial va tenir lloc on aquesta humitat tropical es va intersecar amb una regió d'ascendència forçada situada per sota de la regió d'entrada dels màxims de velocitat dins el corrent en jet en direcció cap a l'equador. A la mesoescala, el fet es va centrar en una zona de convergència de vent orogràfic.
